THE NIGHT, THE EVENT, THE OUTCOME!

The Dundee Institute of Architects Awards attracted 58 entries over six catagories and the winners were announced to a packed audience of 230 at the DIA Awards Dinner at the Invercarse Hotel on Thursday 16th November 2006.

Professor Simon Unwin of the Dundee School of Architecture and Andrew Nicoll a PP of the DIA and formerly of Nicoll Russell Studios were volunteered to act as judges. Being a Chapter based event the DIA felt duty bound to the submitting architects to visit all the projects. They embarked on a series of full days and half days covering the whole Chpater area taking in the varied scenery and the culinary delights the region has offered visiting Perth, Pitlochry, Brechin, Kirkcaldy and of course Dundee.

The awards were reorganised last year substituting the previous single award with several category awards. This change has been extremely successful with submission and interest in the awards increased substantially. This change in format to the awards meant that the judges were afforded a flexability to tweak the catagories to make awards for projects that would have otherwise gone unrewarded.

The DIA thank Simon and Andrew for their time and judgement.

Special thanks to Ged Young - Chapter Vice President, Rodger Brunton - Chapter Secretary and committee members and their staff, Big Hands Graphic Design and Sound and Vision who helped put the evening and the years award organisation together.

The evening was once again ably chaired by Sandy McAllister - President of the Dundee Institute of Architects who kept the evening moving along at a fair pace as there was a lot to get through on the night.
